Prysm iO: Measure Your Skin Carotenoid Score

Prysm iO is a palm-sized scanning device built on patent-pending Spectral Rai™ technology: place a fingertip on the sensor and a 15-second scan takes 700,000+ measurements to estimate your skin carotenoid level and generate a personal Prysm Score. It is not a medical diagnostic device.

What Is Prysm iO?

Prysm iO is a palm-sized scanning device built to measure skin carotenoid levels and turn that measurement into a personal, trackable Prysm Score, using patent-pending Spectral Rai™ technology.

What Does It Measure?

Prysm iO measures skin carotenoid levels — one specific, well-studied antioxidant marker. It does not measure every antioxidant in the body, and a result from Prysm iO should not be read as a complete picture of overall antioxidant status.

How Does It Work?

You place a fingertip on the device's sensor and hold still for about 15 seconds while it scans. Prysm iO uses resonance Raman spectroscopy (hyperspectral scanning) to take over 700,000 measurements per reading, non-invasively — no blood draw and no fasting required.

Backed by Science

Prysm iO is built on over two decades of carotenoid measurement research. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Nu Skin study of 46 healthy adults, both the established BioPhotonic Scanner S3 and a Prysm iO prototype showed similar carotenoid tracking, with participants taking targeted supplements seeing a 43–46% increase in skin carotenoid levels after 12 weeks. Additional studies with Stanford Medicine, Jiao Tong University, and Yonsei University were announced alongside the device in December 2025 and were still in progress as of publishing — their results aren't out yet, so this page doesn't cite specific findings from them.

Is Prysm a Medical Diagnostic Tool?

No. Prysm iO is a wellness measurement tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, predict, or treat disease, and it should not be used as a substitute for medical testing or professional medical advice.

Your Score in the App

Your result appears in the companion app immediately after a scan, alongside a history of previous scans and AI-guided recommendations based on your result.

Why Track Your Score Over Time?

Skin carotenoid levels change gradually with sustained dietary habits. Re-scanning periodically — see Understanding Your Prysm Score — lets you see a trend rather than relying on a single reading, which is generally more informative for tracking nutritional wellness over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Prysm iO?

Prysm iO is a palm-sized scanning device that measures skin carotenoid levels using patent-pending Spectral Rai™ technology, and generates a personal Prysm Score.

What does it measure?

Prysm iO measures skin carotenoid levels — a marker of antioxidant-related nutrient status — not every antioxidant present in the body, and not disease markers.

How does it work?

You place a fingertip on the device's sensor, which uses resonance Raman spectroscopy (hyperspectral scanning) to take 700,000+ measurements and estimate skin carotenoid concentration.

How long does a scan take?

About 15 seconds.

Does it hurt?

No. It's completely painless — you simply place a fingertip on the device.

How accurate is it?

Prysm iO takes 700,000+ hyperspectral absorption measurements per reading and is built on over two decades of carotenoid measurement research. In a Nu Skin clinical study of 46 adults, a Prysm iO prototype tracked carotenoid changes similarly to the established BioPhotonic Scanner S3.

Is scanning invasive?

No. Skin carotenoid scanning is non-invasive and does not require a blood draw, sample collection, or fasting.

Is Prysm a medical diagnostic tool?

No. Prysm iO is a wellness measurement tool. It does not diagnose, predict, or treat any disease, and it does not replace medical testing.

What can influence skin carotenoid levels?

Diet is the primary factor — regular intake of carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables raises levels over time. Other factors, such as overall dietary fat intake, can also play a role, since carotenoids are fat-soluble.

Where do I see my results?

Your score appears in the companion app right after the scan, along with a history of past scans and AI-guided recommendations based on your result.

Why track your score over time?

A single score is a snapshot. Re-scanning periodically shows whether your skin carotenoid levels are trending up, down, or holding steady, which is more informative than any one reading in isolation.

How frequently should someone scan?

Prysm iO is designed for everyday use, so there's no required interval. Skin carotenoid levels change gradually, so a trend across multiple scans over weeks is more informative than any single reading.

How can someone buy Prysm iO?

You can purchase Prysm iO directly through this site — see the pricing and checkout on the Prysm iO product page.
